The Beth Din of America set a Friday deadline for Shulamith School for
Girls to respond to a second hazmana to a din torah.
A group of parents of Shulamith students in Brooklyn brought the din
torah, and a simultaneous civil case. They hope to prevent the sale of the
Flatbush campus and transfer of the proceeds to Bnot Shulamith in the Five
Towns.
In a letter dated Aug. 6, the rabbinical court put aside the school's
contention that "there are threshold issues that need to be resolved before
the case may be heard on its merits." Those matters will be dealt with at
the beginning of the din torah, wrote Rabbi Shlomo Weissman, the director of
the court.
"This is the second summons," the letter continued. "We ask that you
respond no later than August 15, 2008."
A message for Rabbi Moshe Zwick, Shulamith's executive director, was not
returned before the newspaper went to press Tuesday.
